Broad Street Elementary staff reinforces message of caring for students
Butler Area School District's board of directors met Monday, Jan. 22 at Broad Street Elementary School for a community engagement session.
Staff at the school explained their areas of focus and educating children, which included initiatives that cater to the needs of individual children at the school.
“Personalized learning is what we do,” said Meghan Lucas, a teacher at Broad Street Elementary. “Every kid gets that here.”
The school board has community engagement sessions about once a month, and its members visit a different schools in the district. The community engagement session Monday included talks from staff as well as the tour of the school, which was led by a student.
Vanessa Boyd, principal at Broad Street, said the school is focused on community partnerships, which not only provide children with what they need, but help get new groups involved with the school as well.
This involvement, she said, helps each child at the school to feel cared for.
The staff echoed the importance of making the students feel welcome at the school.
“One of the things we want them to know is that they are loved and cared for here,” said Amanda Twidwell, third grade teacher at Broad Street Elementary.
A few students and their parents also attended the meeting. Dave Patton, of Butler, attended the meeting to see his 11-year-old daughter, Selah Patton, speak at the meeting. He also told the school board the school's staff is a passionate group who go the extra mile to care for the students.
“Never ever ever have I ever had a faculty who cares more than at this school,” Patton said.
