SRU basketball teams defeated by Gannon
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team took nationally-ranked Gannon into overtime Wednesday night at Morrow Field House, but dropped a 95-90 decision.
SRU (6-9, 4-5) lost for just the third time in eight games.
The Rock missed its first 13 field goal attempts of the night and had to battle back from a 10-point deficit early. Gannon (14-2, 8-2) scored the final nine points of the game at the foul line.
Maceo Austin led The Rock with 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Lashon Lindsey had 11 points, 16 rebounds and three steals.
Ike Herster scored 23 points while Jomo Goings had 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Josh Omojafo and Lyle Tipton combined to score 51 of Gannon’s 95 points.
Gannon 74, SRU (women) 50 — The Rock (1-11, 1-8) stayed close to No. 3 Gannon early in the game before the Golden Knights pulled away.
Freshman Regan Atkins led The Rock with 18 points. Fellow first-year player Anye Washington scored 12 points off the bench. Endya Robinson contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
Samantha Pirosko led Gannon (18-1, 10-0) with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Both SRU teams travel to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. The women’s game is at 1 p.m., the men’s game at 3 p.m.
