Gremlins run away from Venango Catholic

Shane Peters scored 40 points and grabbed 19 rebounds Tuesday night as Karns City’s boys basketball team ran away from Venango Catholic, 89-15.

Brennan Harmon contributed 14 points, Taite Beighley 13 points and eight assists for the Gremlins. Colson Ritzert had nine rebounds and seven assists.

Karns City (9-4) led 50-10 at halftime and outscored Venango 39-5 in the second half. The Gremlins host DuBois on Friday night.

North Catholic 64, Beaver 49 — Max Hurray scored 23 points for the Trojans, who outscored Beaver by six in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Jason Frederick added 10 points.

Brady Mayo scored 25 points — including four treys — for Beaver. Ty Butler scored 10 points.

North Catholic improved to 9-5 overall, 5-1 in Section 2-4A. The Trojans have won five straight games. Beaver (7-8, 3-3) dropped its third straight.

Seneca Valley 66, New Castle 51 — The Raiders (4-11, 1-3) waved goodbye to a seven-game losing skid by turning away the Red Hurricane Tuesday night. Four different Seneca Valley players put up double-digits, led by Tyler Pepin’s 18 points.

Owen Congdon added 15, Kai West 11, and Jaxon Householder 10 in the win. The Raiders out-scored New Castle, 14-4, in the second quarter.

Union 48, Keystone 32 — The Knights smothered the visitors to the tune of just 12 points allowed in the first half of this Tuesday night matchup. Union led by 16 at the halfway point.

Trey Fleming led the hosts with 15 points, while Dawson Camper and Hayden Smith both had a dozen.

Moon 79, Mars 58 — The Planets (9-6, 3-2) trailed by only one point at halftime, but were outscored 28-13 in the third quarter.

Ryan Ceh paced Mars with 17 points. Ben Detisch had12 and Austin Campbell 10. Moon improved to 12-2 overall, 5-0 in section play with its 11th consecutive victory.

Mars plays at Montour next Tuesday.
