NATRONA HEIGHTS, — Teachers in the Highlands School District are on strike after one last bargaining session failed to produce a contract.

The teachers voted in February to strike if there wasn’t a new contract in place by today. State law requires the union to give at least 48 hours’ notice.

The district has 190 teachers and serves Brackenridge, Tarentum and Harrison Township.

The sides have been bargaining since January 2015.

The teachers may strike for eight days before they’ll have to return.
