HARRISBURG — Data studied by officials at the state’s Department of Transportation revealed that fatalities, injuries and crashes decreased overall at 19 roundabouts throughout the state that have been in place since 2000.

Included in the study was the roundabout in Cranberry Township at the intersection of Glen Eden, Powell and Freshcorn roads, according to a PennDOT news release.

The release said 48 roundabouts are in use on state roads in Pennsylvania and 40 more are in design.

Roundabouts are meant to improve traffic flow, calm traffic and facilitate pedestrian mobility, the release said.

Of the four roundabouts in Butler County, the ones on Route 228 East in Clinton Township and on Glen Eden Road are PennDOT projects, and those on North Boundary Road and Cranberry Woods Drive were installed by Cranberry Township.
