PITTSBURGH — A former Pittsburgh police officer is jailed awaiting sentencing March 2 for vehicular homicide in a high-speed crash that killed his best friend in 2004.

Sean Deasy, 34, was found guilty of vehicular homicide and a separate drunken driving charge, but not the related charge of homicide by vehicle while under the influence. That's because an Allegheny County judge ruled Monday that speed, not Deasy's drinking, caused the crash. Deasy's passenger and friend, 27-year-old Joseph Walker of Green Tree, was killed when the car hit a utility pole.
