The Butler varsity cheerleading squad placed second in camp cheer at the recent UCA Cheerleading Camp held at Slippery Rock University.
The team also finished third in camp extreme dance routine and in home pom routine. Macey Buzanoski finished second in the camp jump-off and Haley Mudrick was selected a UCAA ll-Star.
Along with Mudrick, seniors on the squad are captains Vicki Isaacs, Fallon O'Donnell, Kristen Rodack and Channing Saul.
Juniors include Buzanoski, Jenessa Allshouse, Courtney Cashdollar, Paige Clouse, Emily Cottage, Jennifer Cumberland, Michelina D'Amore, Brittany Freehling, Joelle Houston, Steph Isaacs, Nicole Kirkwood, Kelsey Opperman, Valerie Rodgers, Brittany Shankle and Christy Shields. The team is coached by Lindsay Hasychak.
The Slippery Rock Sliders dropped their fifth straight game in a 9-1 road defeat to Kalamazoo (Mich.) in Frontier League baseball play Thursday.Slippery Rock (10-31) scored its lone run in the ninth inning, while the Kings (19-12) scored four runs in the fifth inning to break the game open.Derek Duclos shouldered the defeat, dropping his record to 0-6.The Sliders have lost 19 of their last 21 contests.No other details were available.
PITTSBURGH — Forwards Maxime Talbot and Erik Christensen, two of the five potential free agents given qualifying offers by the Pittsburgh Penguins, agreed Thursday to two-year contracts.Remaining unsigned were forwards Colby Armstrong and Tim Brent. Defenseman Ryan Whitney signed a $24 million, six-year contract last week.Armstrong couldn't work out an agreement and filed for salary arbitration.The 23-year-old Talbot had 13 goals and 11 assists in 75 games last season. Christensen, 23, had 18 goals and 15 assists in 61 games and tied for the NHL lead with eight shootout goals.
