HARMONY — Harmony will celebrate New Year's Eve six hours early in honor of its German heritage.

Activities include the Harmony Silvester 5K run at 3 p.m. A German band will perform from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the front porch of the Harmony Inn.

From 2 to 5 p.m., visitors to the Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer Street, can learn about area history, see a short film and try Bleigiessen, which involves examining the shape of a piece of melted lead for clues about what the new year may bring.

A pork and sauerkraut buffet dinner will be served in the museum's Stewart Hall.

At 6 p.m., which is midnight in Germany, the Sign Innovation Ball will drop and there will be Zambelli fireworks in addition to a recorded message from Germany.

ZELIENOPLE — Passavant Retirement Community seeks volunteers for its new program, Community Life At Home Chats. Volunteers are needed to assist in chats, which will take place during a half-hour conference call with up to six residents. The program will reach out to those who enjoy talking to others about interesting topics but would prefer doing so from home.The program will start on February and last eight weeks.
