Jean R. Baxter
Jean R. Baxter, 86, of Butler passed away Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Butler, the daughter of the late Archie Julius and Reneta Frederick Rettig.
Jean was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She had belonged to the Maqueda Lodge of Eastern Star, the American Legion Post 249 and Post 778 Ladies Auxiliaries, AARP, the Intermediate League of Butler and Women of Moose 64. She also was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Jean was a 1948 graduate of Butler High. She was a retired teller from Mellon Bank with 37 years of service. After retirement, she had worked at the Young Funeral Home for many years.
Surviving are her niece, Darlene, and her husband, Joseph Huth, of Butler; her friend and caregiver, Carolyn Treme; her close cousin, Tom Rettig; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Baxter, who died Jan. 1, 1993; her brother, Clyde “Bus” E. Rettig; her sister, Mabel Lindt; and her nephew, Clyde E. Rettig Jr.
BAXTER — Friends of Jean R. Baxter, who died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, will be received from noon until the time of service at 3 p.m. Friday at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Alden Towberman, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Butler County Memorial Park.
