Worthington man is big scratch-off winner
CABOT — Tom Gordon’s twice-weekly purchase of a scratch-off lottery ticket paid off April 30 in a big way.
Gordon of Worthington won $300,000 on a $10 “Black Tie” scratch-off.
“I had to go find other people to verify that I wasn’t seeing something that wasn’t there,” he said.
Gordon is a regular customer at Freehling Lumber in Cabot, where he bought the ticket.
“We were really pleased for this man,” said owner Becky Boyd, whose business got a $500 bonus for selling the ticket. “It’s nice to see somebody win big like that.”
“For me, that’s quite a lot of money,” said Gordon, whose wife decided to quit her job and stay at home after the win.
Gordon kept his job at Penn United Technologies in Cabot. He still is playing the lottery, but he doesn’t expect another big pay off.
“It’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” he said. “The odds of it happening again are probably slim to none.”
