McFarland, Smethurst

Jennifer and John Smethurst

Jennifer McFarland and John Smethurst, both of Williamsburg, Va., were united in marriage Aug. 1 at Williamsburg Community Chapel. The Rev. Travis Simone officiated. A reception followed at Legacy Hall in Williamsburg.

The bride is the daughter of Ken and Jackie McFarland of Meridian. Parents of the bridegroom are Rick and Suzi Smethurst of Williamsburg.

The maid of honor was Lindsay McFarland of Butler. Bridesmaids included Kathryn Casterline of Chantilly, Va., Melanie McDermind of Charlotte, N.C., Jessica Sheakely of Oil City, Katherine Smethurst of Sunland, Calif., Christy Smethurst of Williamsburg and Becca Smethurst of Williamsburg. The flower girl was Sophia Simone of Williamsburg.

Performing the duties of best man was Matt Smethurst of Louisville, Ky. Groomsmen included Justin Gerke of Vienna, Va., Kyle Smethurst of Williamsburg, Branden Polk of Williamsburg, David Smethurst of Williamsburg, Tim Zeckser of Denver and Rich Sylvester of Milford, Pa. The ring bearer was Hudson Sylvester of Milford.

The bride is a 2003 graduate of Butler High School, a 2007 graduate of Grove City College and a 2009 graduate of The College of William and Mary. She is employed as a high school counselor at New Kent High School in New Kent, Va.

The bridegroom graduated in 2000 from Lafayette High School and in 2004 from The College of William and Mary. He is employed as a production assistant at Williamsburg Community Chapel.

Following a honeymoon trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica, the couple is making their home in Williamsburg.
