Errors costly again to BlueSox
Poor defensive play continues to haunt the Butler BlueSox.
In Tuesday’s Prospect League baseball game at West Virginia, three Butler errors led to seven unearned runs in a 13-10 loss to the Miners.
The Sox held a 6-2 lead entering the bottom of the fifth, but a Butler error aided West Virginia’s nine runs as the Miners sent 13 men to the plate in the frame.
Butler’s offense produced 12 hits, including a 3-for-4 night from Tanner Murphy, who scored twice and drove in a run.
James Meeker, Patrick Ferguson and Pavin Parks each added two hits. One of Parks’ hits was a triple.
Mark Gross took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out five and walked two.
The Miners (5-8) again play host to the BlueSox (6-7) tonight.
