Here are events and activities scheduled by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department.
Camp AlamedaCamp Alameda is filled with games, activities, arts and crafts, and swimming. Each week has activities, crafts, games and guests geared around a weekly theme.The Camp Alameda program runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Alameda Park.There is an early drop-off at 7 a.m. and a late pickup until 5:30 p.m. at no extra charge.Camp sessions are one week, and campers are divided into age appropriate activities throughout the day.All campers must be potty trained and be at least 4 years old.Campers should take a sack lunch with them.Campers should also pack a bathing suit, suntan lotion and towel every day. Snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the day.The cost for Camp Alameda is $110 per child per week and $95 for each additional sibling registered for the same week. There is a 10-week discount for $900.Children ages 12 or older also are eligible for a counselor in training program.
THEME WEEKS• Skits and Sounds, June 7 to 11 — Campers will sing, dance, play, act and make musical instruments. This will all come together into a real show.• SuperStar Sports, June 14 to 18 — Each day will focus on a different sport, such as volleyball, baseball. soccer, kickball and more.• Fitness and Fun, June 21 to 25 — Find out about fitness, exercise and fun. Finish the week with the Camp Alameda Triathlon.• Stars and Stripes, June 28 to July 2 — Campers are going to celebrate the Fourth of July all week long.• Hobby Hoopla, July 5 to 9 — Campers will take flight with model rockets, explore the art of model building, have fun with arts and crafts, learn how to build birdhouses, and much more. There might even be a visit from the state game commission.• Back to Nature, July 12 to 16 — Camp Alameda explores the great outdoors to see what nature has to offer. Campers will look for edible plant life and identify some local plants.• Sherlock Safety, July 19 to 23 — Camp Alameda is all about safety this week. Guests will teach about fire safety, water safety, home safety, safe games, activities and what to do in an emergency.• Animal Adventures, July 26 to 30 — Campers discover what is living in the woods and how important animals are to our environment and us.• Hopping Holiday Happenings, Aug. 2 to 6 — Camp Alameda celebrates a different holiday every day this week.• Alameda Olympians, Aug. 9 to 13 — Games, activities, crafts and Alameda Olympic Games will be held.• Sensational Seasons, Aug. 16 to 20 — Campers will explore fall and winter activities.
Programs, sports, classesSAND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUESTeams will consist of five to 10 players per team. All players must be on the team roster to play.Minimum of six teams and maximum of 12 teams apply.Cost is $80 per team.League registration is at the Butler County Parks and Recreation Office.League informational and rules meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Pine Shelter by the sand volleyball courts.League play will begin at 5:30 p.m. June 9.
ULTIMATE FRISBEE LEAGUEThe parks department will have an informational meeting about a Frisbee league at 6 p.m. June 3 at the Pine Shelter in Alameda Park. League fees are $80 per team.Play will begin at 5:30 p.m. June 10.
AMERICAN RED CROSS BABY-SITTER TRAININGThis class is for ages 11 to 15. The class emphasis is on five areas: prevention, safety, responsibility, leadership and professionalism.Classes are in Slippery Rock Park, Butler Township Park, Fairview Township, Clinton Township, Adams Township, and Buffalo Township. Registration is required because class size is limited.The cost is $49 per participant and includes all books and materials. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross Baby-sitter's Training Course certification.All classes are scheduled to coincide with the affected school district's scheduled day off. Should the day off change, classes will be rescheduled.Schedule of classes:• Butler Township Park Building, 468 S.
