Local man spreads holiday cheer with movie-themed car

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing Christmas carols, according to one popular holiday movie, but another holiday favorite highlights holiday decor as a way to spread cheer.

Well, the decorations outside of Clark Griswold’s house in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” might cause grief to his immediate neighbors, but the flashy display brought his family together — the scene even serving as a way to introduce Cousin Eddie.

Surely, the community, outside of his direct neighbors, enjoyed the display, too.

All around Butler County, we see people spreading Christmas cheer through their decorations.

Wednesday’s edition of the Eagle featured Tim Shingleton, who has recreated the 1989 Ford Taurus Wagon from “Christmas Vacation,” complete with a dug-out pine tree tied to the roof.

He bought the vehicle, attempted to match the color and then added the tree on top from Fair Haven Farms in Grove City.

“They plucked it out of the ground for us and set it on top,” Shingleton said.

This is just the most recent of Shingleton’s Christmas displays. In years past, he’s elaborately decorated his house.

“Every year, the neighbors are waiting and asking for what he’s going to do,” said Tim’s wife, Amanda Shingleton.

We’ve enjoyed finding stories like the Shingleton family’s while preparing for Christmas.

Thank you to those who spread Christmas cheer through decorations this holiday season.
