Pennington

James Monroe Pennington, 71, of Scranton, formerly of Saxonburg, died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter and son-in-law after an illness.

He was born in Mars, the son of Nim R. "Buck" and Evelyn G. Murray Pennington.

He was a member of F&AM Butler Lodge No. 272, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Mason, the Valley of New Castle and the Syria Shriners of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Pennington was retired from the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He is survived by three daughters, Tamara Pilger and her husband, William, of Scranton, and Diane Spath and Vada Boland, both of Gibsonia; two sons, James R. and Marty Pennington, both of Gibsonia; two sisters, Elaine Pennington Nase of Russellton and Eleinore Kane of Sarver; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and step granddaughter.

<B>Pennington</B> — Cremation took place at Maple Hill Crematory. A memorial service for James Monroe Pennington, who died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 435 Hickory St., Scranton, with services by the Rev. Tom H. Collins.
