Kent Robert McGlincy, formerly of Champion, Pa., passed away June 22 near his home in Sebring, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Joseph McGlincy of Butler. He is survived by his daughter, Meridith McGlincy and her husband, Abdul, of Salt Lake City, Utah; his son, Kent McGlincy Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Denver, Colo.; his granddaughter, Pippa McGlincy, of Denver; and his brother, Thomas McGlincy and his wife, Margaret, of Glendale, Ariz. He also is survived by the mother of Meridith and Kent, Linda Belle McGlincy of Champion, Pa.

Born March 3, 1943, in Butler, he swam, skied, marched, drove, rode and flew around the world throughout an adventurous life that served as the background for short and tall tales that he boisterously shared with his family, friends and strangers alike.

As a state champion swimmer at Butler High School, a TKE fraternity brother at Parsons College in Iowa, ski school instructor at 7 Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, Kent created camaraderie everywhere he went and was rewarded as such with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals of honor, when he retired from active duty in 1968.

MCGLINCY — Kent Robert McGlincy, who died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, will be laid to rest at 9 a.m. July 25 at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.Those wishing to attend the service, please arrive in your vehicles 30 minutes early at the administration building.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at http://heroes.vfw.org/goto/kentmcglincy.The Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, Fla., assisted with the arrangements.
