SRU ROUNDUP
The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team maintained its position atop the team standings Friday after Day 2 of the PSAC Track and Field Championships at West Chester University.
SRU leads with 54 points, followed by East Stroudsburg (49Z\x), Shippensburg (46), Indiana (40) and Kutztown (33Z\x) to round out the top five.
Amanda Seigworth set a school and conference meet record by posting the fastest qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.48 seconds, bettering Andi Rose of SRU's 59.59 that was set in 2007.
Teammate Amanda Smith placed second at 1:00.4. Both times are NCAA qualifying standards.
Seigworth had the second-fastest qualifying time in the 100 (14.36) and Smith's was third (14.48).
The duo joined Tiffany Tedesco and Jayme Stanek to post the top qualifying time in the 400 relay (47.36).
In other preliminaries, Tedesco had the second-fastest time in the 100 (12.51) and 200 (25.42).
Rachel Weber placed second and Jade Hambrick fifth in the shot put finals to lead a group of top eight finishers in several events.
The championship will conclude Saturday.
Men's Track and FieldSRU's Brady Wert captured first place in the decathlon, besting nine other competitors with 6,444 points. The total also qualifies him for the NCAA Division II Championships.Chris Warning also placed fourth in the hammer throw.After Friday's competition, SRU currently is in sixth place with 16 points, 42 behind first-place Shippensburg.
