Uncontested school board races mostly see incumbents
General election results for three uncontested school board races on Tuesday, Nov. 7 saw mostly incumbents run for four-year seats in Butler, Mars and Allegheny-Clarion Valley school districts, with two newcomers among them securing seats.
In Butler Area School District, Republican candidate Cecilia Tomko led the way with 8,450 votes, or 22.85% of the vote; followed by cross-filed incumbent candidate Jennifer Cummings with 7,423 votes, or 20.07% of the vote; Phil C. Heasley, who received 7,353 votes, or 19.88% of the vote; incumbent candidate Jennifer Daniels-Wells, with 6,778, 18.33% of the vote; and cross-filed newcomer Terry Stivason, who received 6,609 votes, or 17.87% of the vote.
Both Heasley and Tomko were appointed by the board in May to fill vacant seats left by the resignations of William “Bill” Halle and Regenold Griffin.
Mars Area School District also had five candidates run for five four-year terms, with four incumbents and one newcomer on the ballot.
In Mars, Republican candidate and incumbent John L. Kennedy was in the front with 4,040 votes, 21.98% of the vote; followed by newcomer and Republican candidate Aaron Rose with 3,925 votes, 21.35% of the vote; cross-filed incumbent candidates Sallie A. Wick with 3,646 votes, 19.84% of the vote; Anthony L. DePretis with 3,332 votes, 18.13% of the vote; and Kevin M. Hagen, who received 3,287 votes, 17.88% of the vote.
Meanwhile, Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District had one Republican candidate run uncontested for one four-year seat. Butler County voters selected incumbent Carrie Lee Armagost with 107 votes, or 95.54% of the vote.
