Art on display all season long
Here is a look at some of the art activities that are scheduled for this summer.
The Art CenterThe Associated Artists of Butler County will present these exhibits and activities at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St. In the main Rittelmann Gallery:• The 76th annual Spring Show & Sale continues through June 10• “The Patriot” regional juried art exhibit, running June 24 to July 30. An unjuried international digital show also themed “The Patriot” will run concurrently with the juried version• “Man & Machine” art exhibit from Aug. 12 to 26. The opening coincides with the first night of the Bantam Jeep Festival, which runs through Aug. 14• The annual “Nature & Wildlife Show,” Sept. 9 to Oct. 7.Entry forms for all exhibits can be downloaded from the website www.aabcArtCenter.com.In the Underground Gallery, band nights start at 6:30 p.m. and are planned for May 27, June 17, July 8, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. Maridon MuseumPlanned activities at the Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., include:• Children’s Japanese Brush Painting Classes, 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays from July 1 to 29 for children in grade one through six. Cost is $13 for non-members and $10 for members.• Tanabata, Japanese Star Watching Festival, children’s program, 1 p.m. July 6, includes story telling and decorating a bamboo tree. Cost is $5 for first child and $4 for each additional child.• Intro to Kusudama adult program, noon on July 7. Make a Christmas tree ornament by using Japanese paper folding. Fee to be determined.• Lucky Dragon Casino Night, 6:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Butler Country Club, Penn Township. This casino night fundraiser will feature hors d’oeuvres, horse races and casino games.• Feng Shui Workshop for adults, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6. The workshop will be led by Fawn Chang, and lunch will be provided. Cost is $25 for non-members and $20 for members.• Moon Viewing Festival for children, 11 a.m. Sept. 17, featuring storytelling, The Rabbit on the Moon, and crafts. Cost is $5 for first child and $4 for each additional child.The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Saxonburg Area Artists CooperativeSaxonburg Area Artists Cooperative, 215 Main St. rear in Saxonburg, continues the second annual high school senior art exhibit through May 28. Six school districts are participating, including Knoch High School.Summer gallery hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, 1 to 9 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays.
