Butler County Bears organizing returnBUTLER TWP — The Butler County Bears semi-ro football organization, dormant last season, is planning to return this spring.The Bears will have a meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at T-Shirts & Sew On on New Castle Road for player and cheerleader registrations. Pitt hires Canada to run its offensePITTSBURGH — Matt Canada is Pittsburgh's new offensive coordinator.Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi announced Canada's hiring on Friday, less than a week after Canada was let go by N.C. State.Narduzzi and Canada coached together at Northern Illinois from 2000-02. Canada spent the last three years as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Wolfpack, who averaged 33.2 points and 412 yards per game in 2015.Canada takes over for Jim Chaney, who left after one season to become the offensive coordinator at Georgia.
Ex-Cav Johnson dead at age 68SAN JOSE, Calif. — John Johnson, a two-time All-Star forward with the Cleveland Cavaliers who helped the Seattle SuperSonics win the 1979 NBA title, has died. He was 68.Johnson's godson, John Herndon, said Friday that Johnson died Thursday at his San Jose home. The cause of death wasn't known.The former University of Iowa star was drafted seventh overall by Cleveland in 1970.Nats, Blue Jays deal Storen, RevereWASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals have traded reliever Drew Storen to the AL East champion Toronto Blue Jays for outfielder Ben Revere.
The teams announced the deal Friday night.The 28-year-old Storen had sought a trade, having lost his closer role in late July when the Nationals acquired Jonathan Papelbon from Philadelphia. Storen was shifted to an eighth-inning role following that trade and struggled.Revere figures to take over the center field and leadoff job that Denard Span held. Span joined San Francisco this week as a free agent.
