Saxonburg hosting lost person training

The Butler County Fire Police Association, in cooperation with the Saxonburg Police Department and Lower Kiski Search and Rescue K9 Team, will host a lost person training event Sunday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company carnival grounds. Mock search operations will be conducted throughout Saxonburg and outlying areas between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Butler County fire companies and Region 13 search and rescue teams will participate in the event, which includes a presentation by Lower Kiski Search and Rescue staff about missing person behavior, and search protocols and strategies. True-to-life scenarios will include establishing incident command, assigning search teams, following search protocols, using K9 teams and tending to the found person.

“We’re excited about hosting this event,” said Eugene Bartlett, Butler County Fire Police Association president, “Since these types of calls involve multiple agencies, we’ll have the opportunity to work with each other in a training exercise. It will improve our responsiveness in the event of an actual lost person.”
