Mars Area to kick off Red Ribbon Week

Mars Area School District will commemorate Red Ribbon Week, Monday through Friday, Oct. 23 to 27.

Students at all schools will be invited to join in a series of theme days throughout the week.

On Monday, students in kindergarten through grade eight are encouraged to wear tie-dye colors for “Don’t Get Tied Up with Drugs” day. High school students will be invited to wear sports jerseys as part of “Slam & Dunk, Drugs are Junk” day.

On Tuesday, all students are welcome to wear red, white and blue colors for “Voting for My Future to Be Drug Free” day.

Wednesday will be “Don’t Get Mixed Up with Drugs” day for kindergarten through grade eight, and students are asked to wear mismatched clothing. For high school students, it will be “Drugs Will Make Your Skies Gray” day, so students are asked to wear gray clothes.

Thursday will be “Your Choices Are the Key to Your Dreams” day, allowing students of all grades to wear pajamas or comfy clothes.

The final day, Friday, will be “Our School Chooses to Be Drug Free” day, encouraging all students to wear the school colors — blue and gold.

The purpose of the annual event is to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. For more information, contact the individual school buildings.
