Holiday wishes for sports enthusiasts
Dear Santa,
Each year, I pen this Christmas list. Each year, you do what you can to oblige.
Here’s the wish list for Christmas, 2010:
To the UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH and WEST VIRGINIA: Enrollment in a class on how to have class while changing football coaches.
To DARLENE ENRIETTO, my wife: A fantasy football championship.
To SIDNEY CROSBY, Pittsburgh Penguin: Ahh, skip him this year. The kid already has everything.
To the MARS HOCKEY TEAM: Ahh, skip them, too.
To the PITTSBURGH PIRATES: A winning record ... please!!!
To GEORGE MIHALIK, Slippery Rock University football coach: One more touchdown in each of those last three games.
To PERRY MYERS, Eagle sports copy editor: The resurrection of the Pirates. He claims they’re dead to him.
To BEN ROETHLISBERGER, Steelers quarterback: Seeing yellow flags instead of stars after some of the late hits he’s been taking.
To the BUTLER HIGH football program: A positive outlook, coaching security and respect throughout the WPIAL. (You gave this to Mars and Pine-Richland a number of years ago. How about a return visit?)
To SCOTT STONER, Butler wrestling coach: A team win over North Allegheny.
To MATT CLEMENT, Butler boys basketball coach: Toss a few playoff wins in his stocking.
To MEGHAN SCHNUR, former Butler soccer standout: Being able to wear a United States jersey in the World Cup would be nice.
To MIKE KILROY, Eagle sports writer: Better taste in teams. (The Buffalo Bills? Really? Give it up already.)
To BRIAN MINTO, professional boxer: One more cruiserweight title shot. He’s willing to knock down a few more guys to get there.
To MIKE KING, Knoch football coach: A retooled offensive line to match his returning skilled position players.
To KYLE ARMAGOST, Moniteau’s do-it-all football player: A breather.
To TERRELL OWENS and CHAD OCHOCINCO, Bengal wide receivers: Cancellation of their TV show. (I’m not being mean, Santa, it’s for their own good, really).
To ROGER GOODELL, NFL Commissioner: A book titled “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It” and a nice pair of reading glasses.
To DEREK PYDA, Eagle sports writer: The key if there’s an NFL lockout next year.
To the CLEVELAND DAWG POUND: LeBron James dressed in a cat costume.
To SAM TALLARICO, Eagle sports writer: The time, energy and determination to make that Butler County Half Marathon in April.
To JAMIE DIXON, Pitt basketball coach: A Final Four berth. You’ve teased him enough, Santa!
To SPORTS FANATICS everywhere: Good times for your teams, fun times with your family and year-round recognition that it’s just a game.Happy Holidays!John Enrietto is sports editor of the Butler Eagle
