Maria Johanna Gieger, 90, of Saxonburg passed away on Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

Born July 4, 1928, in Herzmanns, Germany, she was the daughter of the late John and Maria Huber.

Maria was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family.

She was an avid volunteer with area organizations.

Surviving are her sons, Arno (Julie) Gieger of Westerville, Ohio, and Roland Gieger of New Fairfield, Conn.; her granddaughter, Cassandra (Samuel) Sherwood of Charleston, S.C.; her grandsons, Kurt Gieger of Westerville, Ohio, and James Gieger of Chino Hills, Calif.; a great-grandson, Granger Sherwood of Charleston, S.C.; and her sister, Dora Huber of Herzmanns, Germany.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Gieger; and a sister, Rosa Weber.
