NEW YORK — Francisco Lindor underwent surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow, the Mets announced.

The club’s star shortstop underwent surgery with Dr. David Altchek on Tuesday in New York, according to a statement sent by the team. The surgery was successful and Lindor is expected to be “fully ready” for spring training.

Lindor, who will be 30 next month, missed only two games during the 2023 season and one in 2022. Health has been a priority for a player who aims to play 162 games a year. Lindor didn’t even miss a game after the birth of his second daughter, Amapola, was born in June, returning to the lineup the night after she was born.

He sat out twice in August with side tightness. There was some fear that it could have been an oblique strain, but he avoided the injured list and returned the to field quickly.

In his third season with the Mets, Lindor hit .254 with an .806 OPS, 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases to become only the fourth player to reach the 30-30 milestone in a Mets uniform. After a relatively slow start, he finished the season with a 120 OPS+, above his career average of 117. Lindor’s performance was one of the few bright spots for the Mets in an otherwise disastrous season.
