Bike trail lines repainted; markings cut down on injuries
Travelers on the bike trail at Moraine State Park may come across another type of vehicle over the next week or two.
The park is having the center line repainted on the 7.25-mile paved trail, which Dustin Drew, Moraine State Park manager, said is worthwhile maintenance on a safety measure of the trail.
“That trail sees a lot of activity,” Drew said. “Having that center line, we have seen a decrease in injuries since that has happened.”
According to Drew, the Moraine Preservation Fund paid for the line repainting this time, covering the $4,700 cost. Williams & Willman Line Painting started the job Friday, Sept. 29, but painting much of the trail had to be delayed because the ground was too damp, Drew said.
Drew also said the trail line has to be repainted every few years so the marking stays clear for bikers. With the number of people who use the trail in the fall months, it is important for safety measures to be in place for bikers.
“Especially with the fall and cooler temperatures, it's nice to see the leaves change,” Drew said. “It gets close to the lake at the park so you get a lot of views.”
