Thaddeus J. 'Thad' Hedrick
Thaddeus J. “Thad” Hedrick, 86, of East Brady, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, passed away Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
Mr. Hedrick was born on April 4, 1928, in Elkins, W.Va., to the late Dow and Ida McElyea Hedrick.
Thad worked as a lumberman and logger all of his life. He worked for the Richard Voorhees Lumber Co. and later in the 1970s became co-owner with Richard Voorhees Jr. at the Voorhees-Hedrick Lumber Co. in Fenelton. He moved to Elkins, W.Va., and owned and operated the Hedrick Lumber Co. there. He later moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to his family.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, clearing property on his farm, and working with his logging equipment.
Mr. Hedrick is survived by his former wife, Rosa Tharp Hedrick of Karns City. The couple had six daughters and two sons who survive, Christine Hedrick of Franklin, Connie Hedrick and her friend, Tim Minich, of Natrona Heights, Dennis Hedrick and his wife, Denise, of East Brady, Catherine Moore and her husband, Bill, of Butler, Cynthia Switzer and her husband, Kevin, of Karns City, Debra Angert and her friend, Michael Meyer, of Karns City, Donna Cumberland and her husband, Rick, of Karns City, and Michael Hedrick and his friend, Amy McConnel, of Karns City. Also surviving are his 16 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his great-great-grandchild; his brother, Paul Hedrick of Fenelton; his sister, Dolly Lavoie of Visalia, Calif., as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Hutchinson, who died on April 2, 2006; his three brothers, Ronald, Edward and Howard Hedrick, and his sister, Nellie Elza.
Hedrick — A private family visitation and funeral service for Thaddeus J. “Thad” Hedrick, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, will be Wednesday at theHile Funeral Home of Karns City officiated by the Rev. Jim Lewis, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church.
