Irma Hassler Brown
Irma Hassler Brown, 97, of Ridgeville passed away at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at the Grove Manor Nursing Center in Grove City.
Irma was born in Boyers on June 30, 1916, to the late Earl B. and Hanna Barber Hassler.
Her early years were spent in Boyers and the family relocated to Butler. Irma often recalled memories of her school days, friendships and activities in Butler. She graduated from Concord High School in Hooker in 1934.
Irma was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake. Her favorite recipes were often requested by family and friends. She was a cook for the Moniteau School District for 18 years and a member of PSEA.
Irma had a knack for growing picturesque African violets and roses. She was an avid shopper who enjoyed music, theatrical productions, holidays, family celebrations and travel.
From her teen years, Irma was a member of the Ridgeville United Methodist Church where she was a teacher in the primary Sunday School classes and director of various church programs. In her later years, she still enjoyed singing the old-time hymns.
Irma loved her family, friends and neighbors, and was always concerned for their welfare. The welcome mat was always there for anyone who wished to come by for a laugh, a visit or a friendly chat. She was the happiest when she was helping or caring for others.
Irma will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her two daughters, Shirley M. Brown of Butler, and Carolyn J. Brown of Ridgeville; her son, Daryl E. (Sandi) Brown of Eau Claire; and her grandson, Dustin V. Brown of Eau Claire.
In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Brown, who she married on Sept. 8, 1934, and who died on Nov. 18, 1983.
Brown — The friends of Irma Hassler Brown, who passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday.Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeremy Stouffer of the Grove Manor Nursing Center officiating.
