Joseph Vicari

Joseph Vicari, 89, of Butler died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 13, 1917, in Sicily, he was son of Dominic and Concettina Gregory Vicari.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Vicari retired in 1979 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation after 17 years. He also had owned and operated the Vicari Coal Mine in Summit Township.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the French and Belgium Club and the Lyndora American Legion.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Regis and Mrs. Rose Macefe Sommariva, both of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Cavicchia Vicari, who died Feb. 29, 1996; three brothers; and a sister.

<B>VICARI </B>— Friends of Joseph Vicari, who died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue, with the Rev. James Dolan officiating. Burial will at the St. Michael Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of St. Michael Parish will hold a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
