Joseph W. Mrochek, 75, of Butler died Wednesday afternoon at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 10, 1931, in Lyndora, he was the son of Joseph and Anne Noracey Mrochek.

He retired in 1992 as a science teacher in the Mars School District after 33 years.

Mr. Mrochek graduated from St. Francis College of Loretto with a bachelor's degree, received a master's degree from Duquesne University and did postdoctorate work at the University of Pittsburgh.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Elks Lodge of Butler, the Senior Golf League and the Elks Golf League.

He served as a first lieutenant in the Army.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta Giuntoli Mrochek, to whom he was married for 50 years; a son, Joseph M. Mrochek and his wife, Ellen, of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. David (Jeanine) Wigton of Butler and Mrs. Brian (Jennifer) Hartzel of Hackettstown, N.J.; five grandchildren, Rachael, Rennae and Rochelle Wigton, all of Butler, Joseph Hartzel of Hackettstown and Jaret Mrochek of Columbus.

<B>MROCHEK </B>— Friends of Joseph W. Mrochek, who died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue, with the Rev. James Dolan officiating. Entombment will be at the Calvary Mausoleum.The Bereavement Group of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church will hold a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
