Josephine Horvatic Schnitski, 81, of Butler died suddenly Monday following a brief illness at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born in Lyndora, Feb. 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine Slugen Furka Horvatic.

She graduated from Butler High School in 1948.

She was a member of the St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Lyndora, where she was a longtime eucharistic minister.

Josephine enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed working out crossword puzzles.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Ann Best of Butler and Donna Schnitski of Gibsonia; three brothers, Cmdr. Thomas L. Horvatic, U.S. Navy, retired of Virginia Beach, Va., John Martin Furka of Karns City and Joseph C. Furka of Lyndora; a granddaughter, Kelly Jo Best Hayden; three great-grandchildren, Thomas McGary Hayden VI, Evan Wilson Hayden and Emily Alexis Hayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; a daughter, Sandra Lee Schnitski Flack; and a brother, George Furka.

<B>SCHNITSKI </B>— Family and friends of Josephine Horvatic Schnitski, who died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at 3 p.m. Friday at the St. Fidelis Catholic Church, 303 Penn Ave., Lyndora. The Rev. George Palick will officiate. A reception will take place in the church hall following the ceremony. Private inurnment will be later at Calvary Cemetery, Butler. There will be no visitation.The family suggests memorial donations be made to the St. Fidelis Parish or to the VNA Inpatient Hospice facility.Cremation services were provided by <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, and information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
