Julia Marie Piszko
Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Julia Marie Piszko, 92, of Hampton, Va., passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday surrounded by her family.
Julia was born in Johnstown Aug. 2, 1921, to Mary and Nicholas Prokopchak of Habura, Czechoslovakia.
While living in Lyndora, she met George Piszko, her soulmate and best friend, who she would be happily married to for 63 years.
Julia enjoyed cooking ethnic food, sewing and baking for her grandchildren. She was also a scout leader and active member of the St. Roses Ladies Sedality. She was a founding member and matriarch of the Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Va., where she volunteered hundreds of hours at the church with her husband George every year.
Julia was preceded in death by her loving husband, George; her brothers, Mike and Nick; her sisters, Anne and Mary; and grandson, Michael John.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis and David and his wife, Janet; her daughter, Patty and her husband, Michael; her grandchildren, Paul and his wife, Isle, and Jeffrey and his wife, Nadine; and her great-grandchildren, George “Ward” Piszko and Julie Irene Piszko.
Piszko — The family of Julia Marie Piszko, who passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va.A celebration of Julia's life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
