Charles A. Gross
Charles A. Gross, 79, of Butler passed away Saturday afternoon at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Born June 25, 1936, in Curtisville, Allegheny County, he was a son of the late Richard and Matilda Bastikait Gross.
Charles was employed for 39 years as a switchman for the United Telephone Co.
He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler.
He was active in the Butler Township Baseball Association, where he was a manager and a member of the board of directors. He formerly was a basketball coach at McQuistion Elementary School.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gladys Nolker Gross; two sons, Chuck E. Gross and his wife, Tammy, of Butler and Curt R. Gross and his wife, Maureen, of Butler; one daughter, Caryle Kraut and her husband, Michael, of Pahrump, Nev.; one brother, Ted Gross and his wife, Evie, of Butler; and one sister, Dorothy Zonarich of Russellton.
In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Jayme, Katelyn, Michael, C.J., Mark, Sam and Heidi.
GROSS — Friends of Charles A. Gross, who died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Alden Towberman, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at the Butler County Memorial Park.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the VFW Post 249 of Butler and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.The family requests memorial donations to Butler Meals on Wheels, 218 E.
