Mars' Fourth of July has food, parade, fireworks
MARS — Jen Fleming and Sandy Wahl are once again planning the Mars Fourth of July Celebration for downtown Mars.
Beginning at 3 p.m., free pulled pork sandwiches or hot dogs, provided by Dave’s Meats, will be available along with chips, cookies and a drink.
Fleming said last year’s celebration included enough food for 2,000 people.
“I had 18 hot dogs left,” she said. “We just got wiped out.”
In addition to Dave’s Meats, Shop ‘n Save, Marburger Dairy and Slice of Sugar will provide food or drinks for the event.
Children’s activities and games along Grand Avenue will open at 3 p.m. Fleming said bounce houses, temporary tattoos, balloon artists, face painting, arts and crafts and games will be available for the celebration’s youngest revelers.
At 5 p.m., the Pet and Bike Parade will begin. The parade will start at Beaver Street, continue onto Pittsburgh Street, and turn left onto Grand Avenue. The parade will end at the post office.
Eight fire companies also will showcase their trucks. Other entrants are the Mars Stars Jump Rope Team, the Mars Fightin’ Planets Marching Band, the Butler County Convention and Tourism Bureau, two dozen floats, antique vehicles, tractors and horses.
A fireworks display by Pyrotecnico of New Castle is planned at dark.
The display will be set off on Reservoir Hill to the east of downtown, so many people set up chairs in the parking lot behind Mars Bank or along Railroad Street.
