GLENSHAW — Police say a Pittsburgh-area man fatally shot himself after first killing his daughter and seriously wounding his wife and son.

Allegheny County and Shaler Township police have yet to release the victims' names to allow time for relatives to be notified of the deaths in the township just northeast of the city. Police responded to a 911 call from the home about 3 a.m. Thursday.

The man's wife and son have been taken to a hospital for unspecified injuries. The shooter's son and daughter were reportedly college students set to return to school.

Police quickly assessed the situation after arriving at the scene.

County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said, “We believe at this juncture the father shot the other three family members before turning the gun on himself.”

SWARTHMORE — A seven-foot boa constrictor that slithered away from its home more than a week ago has been found.The pet was discovered in a yard a few blocks away from its home. The snake was unharmed and was returned to its owner, veterinarian David Spiegel.The serpent went missing last week after it was left it in the yard to sun itself.

GREENSBURG — The death of an elderly man who fell off a tractor that was pulling a brush mower in western Pennsylvania has been ruled an accident.The Westmoreland County coroner's office said after an autopsy Wednesday that 71-year-old Anders Johnson of Salem Township died of blunt force trauma.Investigators said Johnson was found at the scene shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and pronounced dead after a deputy coroner arrived about an hour later.

PITTSBURGH — The state attorney general's office has asked the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to review a lower court decision overturning the guilty verdict against a 15-year-old Western Pennsylvania boy who allegedly killed his father's pregnant fiancee and her unborn child when he was 11.The Pennsylvania Superior Court in May overturned Jordan Brown's conviction and sent the case back to Lawrence County juvenile court.That's where a judge ruled in April 2012 that Brown was delinquent — the juvenile court equivalent of guilty — in the 2009 deaths of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn son. Houk was shot in the back of the head with Brown's .20-gauge youth model shotgun.
