Butler cross country wins Marty Uher Classic
Butler senior Drew Griffith completed the course in 15 minutes, 25 seconds — seconds behind the course record he set last year — to win the eight-team Marty Uher Classic cross country meet Saturday at California (Pa.) University.
The Golden Tornado boys won the team title as well.
The top 20 male and female finishers received medals. Owen Dressler was fifth overall for Butler with a time of 17:35. Freshman Brendan Eicher was sixth in 18:05, Zachary Slear seventh in 18:09. Drew Knight 10th in 18:14 and Logan Rogers 16th in 18:41.
Butler’s girls placed sixth out of nine teams. Ava Brewster was third overall in 20:09, Madi McGarrah 15th in 22:07 and Makayla McLister 16th in 22:15.
Slippery Rock freshman Kasey Yeager placed first with a time of 13 minutes, six seconds as the Rocket girls defeated Commodore Perry.
In the boys meet, Leshan Chen led Slippery Rock with a third-place finish in a team loss.

Freeport improved its record to 10-1 overall and 9-0 in section play with a victory over Leechburg at Buffalo Golf Course.
Led by Matt Ziembicki-Reedy’s 37, the Yellowjackets carded a 194.
Leechburg was unable to field a full team.

Leaders for the Raiders included Anthony Cardosi (38), Marcos Lopez (39) and Nick Kaufman (39).
Knoch 222, Riverview 250 — At Butler Country Club, Aaron Voltz fired a 40 to pace the Knights (8-3, 8-1).

District 10, Region 2 — Kellan Stoughton-Drogowski shot an 84 to lead Slippery Rock to a fifth-place finish at Deer Creek Golf Course.
The Rockets ended the day with 358 strokes.
Grove City’s Isaac Allan fired a 65, including a 30 on the front nine, to lead Grove City to the team win with 307 strokes.
KSAC Mega Match — A-C Valley/Union’s Joe Rapp and Karns City’s Joey O'Donnell both carded a 43 to tie for sixth place at Aubrey’s Dubbs Dred.
Moniteau’s Dawson Wallace and A-C Valley/Union’s Koen Strauser both had 44.
Clarion won the event with 211 strokes, 20 better than Cranberry. The Bobcats featured 41s from Kameron Kerle and Devon Lauer.
Audrey Lehman’s strong effort paced Butler to a 3-1 victory at Fox Chapel.
She tallied 17 kills, 17 digs, four aces and a block as the Golden Tornado defeated the Foxes by scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-22.
Sarah Szebalskie added 11 kills and six digs and Hannah Fertig eight kills, nine digs and three aces for Butler (3-0).
Punxsutawney 3, A-C Valley 0 — Maddy Dehart had four kills for the Falcons (1-1) in this 25-12, 25-21, 25-6 defeat. Collen Verostek had seven digs while Malia Page contributed five assists.
A-C Valley plays at Forest Area on Thursday.

Knoch 3, Mars 0 — Lily Javor had nine kills and Hailey Duker 15 assists for the Planets.
