Harmony — Historic Harmony, which operates Harmony Museum, is seeking vintage photographs for a book about the history of the borough and Lancaster and Jackson townships. The book, "Harmony," will contain more than 200 pictures and be published for Historic Harmony next summer. Proceeds will benefit museum operations.
Residents are asked to contribute original old photos and photo postcards that illustrate the area's history. Of particular interest are pictures from the 19th century through the 1970s of people, businesses, school and church activities, parades and other community events. Some advertising cards and printed programs may also be accepted.
The museum cannot use photographs of photographs, photocopies, negatives or slides, digitally retouched images, digital images that have been printed by ink jet or laser printer, newspaper clippings or images that have been downloaded from Internet sources.
Loaned images will be copied at Harmony Museum and returned. Owners whose images are selected to appear in "Harmony" will be credited. The museum must receive submissions by Friday.

NORTH WASHINGTON—The North Washington Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Christmas auction at 5 p.m. Friday at the social hall on Oneida Valley Road.Toys, decorations, tools and household goods will be available. Mastercard and Visa will be accepted. Bob Grossman will be the auctioneer. Proceeds benefit the department.
BUTLER TWP— The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will kick off the holiday season by lighting the Alameda lights, singing Christmas carols and holding a candy cane hunt at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 29 at the Carousel Shelter in Alameda Park.Participants should take flashlights for the hunt and will later enjoy hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.Registration is required by calling 724-284-5385.
