BUTLER TWP — A fire early this morning killed a woman and her son in their house at 821 E. Jefferson St.

Firefighters were called out about 12:20 a.m. to a house that was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Sixty-four-year-old Margaret Scheetz and her 43-year-old son, Larry Scheetz, died in the fire. Their bodies were recovered before the building was demolished since it was declared unsafe.

Witnesses said there were explosions in the house, which fire officials suspect were caused by oxygen tanks that Margaret Scheetz used.
