County to host picnic and walk to celebrate recovery
The county plans to host a September gathering of hope in the name of recovery.
The Butler County Recovery Walk and Picnic will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Butler Memorial Park, centered around the Miller Pavilion.
The event is hosted by the Butler County Human Services' Drug and Alcohol programs, and it is being sponsored by multiple local businesses.
“It will be a fun day of celebration,” said Beth Neveux, the county's drug and alcohol program supervisor.
Registration for the event, which is open to everyone, starts at 10 a.m., with a walk at 11 a.m. in honor of those who have recovered from addiction. Following the walk at noon, lunch will be served.
Neveux said the food, entertainment and games are free and for all ages. Neveux said anyone who pre-registers will be able to get a free T-shirt and raffle ticket.
Donna Jenereski, director of the county's drug and alcohol programs, said the goal is to celebrate those who are in recovery and those striving for it.
“Recovery is possible,” Jenereski said. “People and families, they can and do recover.”
