Blaze destroys garage, contents

Firefighters from Prospect, Connoquenessing and Butler Township work to extinguish a fire in a garage at 124 Eagle Mill Road on Thursday. The fire destroyed shop tools, a passenger car, a dump truck and a small tractor.
Losses estimated at about $80,000

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Firefighters quickly contained a fire in a detached garage early Thursday afternoon.

No one was injured in the fire, but a car, a dump truck and a tractor inside were damaged.

Prospect Fire Chief Frank Wilson said the garage and its contents were likely a total loss, estimating the damage to be about $80,000.

The fire at 124 Eagle Mill Road was reported just after 1 p.m. It was under control by 1:30 p.m. and did not spread to the house.

An about six-foot hole burned through the roof. The garage’s walls are cinderblock.

Owners Connie and Bob Ivill were leaving their home when they saw the garage on fire and called 911, they said.

The Ivills, who have insurance, have lived there since 1990.

Wilson believes the fire started on a workbench. He said it did not seem suspicious. The state police fire marshal will be called in to make an official decision on the cause.

Volunteer firefighters from Connoquenessing Township, Prospect and Butler Township responded.

Eagle Mill Road from Route 422 west to the house was closed for a while as responders worked to clean up the scene.
