Pirates defeat Royals, 6-3
Ke’Bryan Hayes and Liover Peguero both bashed home runs and Jack Suwinski hit a triple that led to him scoring a run as the Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Kansas City Royals, 6-3, on the road Tuesday night.
Hayes’ two-run homer to left center put the Pirates on the board in the top of the eighth inning after the hosts’ Drew Waters batted in Bobby Witt Jr. in the home fourth.
Peguero gave Pittsburgh some breathing room with a three-run slam to left in the top of the ninth, then Suwinski scored on an error after his extra-base knock.
The tying run reached the on-deck circle before Pittsburgh reliever Cody Bolton got Michael Massey to ground out to end the game with Freddy Fermin on first.
Fermin reached base on a two-run single that scored MJ Melendez and Nelson Velazquez, closing the gap to three.
