Butler girls golf cruises to win

Macie McLister and Paige Ponteous both carded 41 on Tuesday and the Butler girls golf team defeated Shaler, 184-214.

The Golden Tornado return to action Sept. 6, taking on Mars at Suncrest Golf Course.

Boys Golf

James Kinghorn, Will Campbell and Lukas Singh all shot 37 as Mars defeated Knoch, 189-202. Mason Phillips and Aaron Voltz shot 38 for the Knights.

Girls Volleyball

Abbey Jewart tallied eight aces, six assists and a kill as Moniteau blanked Forest, 3-0. Match scores were 25-19, 25-13, 25-9.

Sophia Fleeger produced five aces and five assists, Sydney Bayless an ace and three kills.

A-C Valley 3, Venango Catholic 0 — The Falcons (1-0) took this match in three games — 25-6, 25-14, and 25-12. Lexi Altman had six aces and nine assists, while Maddy DeHart, Bella Ielase, and Ava Snyder had four kills each. A-C Valley will play Punxsutawney Tuesday.

Slippery Rock 3, Hickory 0 — Anora Robare ha 32 assists and two kills for the Rockets, who won this match by scores of 25-10, 25-11, 25-12. Avalee Demidovich totaled 12 kills and Molly Bissell had 10.

CJ Sabo had four blocks and Lexi Plesakov contributed nine digs.

Seneca Valley 3, Hempfield 0 — The Raiders won by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-22.

Boys Soccer

Alex Cagle and Nick Olshanski scored goals and Tent Davey found the net on a penalty kick as Slippery Rock won its season opener, 3-1, over Wilmington.

Josh Book had three saves for the Rockets, who host Sharpsville on Thursday.

Shady Side Academy 6, Freeport 1 — Xavier DeWitt scored a goal for Freeport, but the Yellowjackets dropped this decision. Judah Thompson made 13 saves in goal in the defeat.

Deer Lakes 3, Knoch 1 — Evan Haas scored the lone goal for the nights, assisted by Will Parisi.

Girls Tennis

North Catholic shut out Mars, 5-0. The Planets’ next match is Wednesday at Pine-Richland.
