Maureen Elizabeth Catherine Timm Kraus

Maureen Elizabeth Catherine Timm Kraus, 75, of Butler passed away Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born on Aug. 26, 1938, in Flushing, Long Island, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late George Timm and Adelaide (Williams) Timm.

She lived in Baldwin, Long Island, N.Y., and attended Baldwin Elementary and Memphim High School, lettering in cheerleading, field hockey and tennis. She was also a graduate of Corteland State Teachers College.

She was an active member in the Freeport Yacht Club, participating in swimming, diving and tennis teams. Maureen enjoyed boating, swimming, skiing and teaching special needs children to ski at King Ridge, N.H.

Maureen's first job was with ABC-TV in New York City as an editor and censor working on popular shows including “Andy Williams” and “Pat Boone.” Each morning the camera crew actually used a shot of Maureen's red hair to calibrate their color cameras.

Maureen married her husband of 54 years, Raymond K Kraus, on Oct. 11, 1960, at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in New York City. They were married by the Father John Weaver, OFN, and the Father Casmir Zvirbils, OP.

Raymond and Maureen had two daughters, Catherine and Kelly, while living in Long Island and later moved their family to Londonderry, N.H., where she began her teaching career, teaching elementary school art. Maureen continued teaching after moving to Vermont at Harwood Union High School in science and math. She was active in the PTA and served as director of the school board. Her last teaching position was working with special needs children in Northfield, Vt.

Maureen received the rite of profession into the Secular Franciscan Order, along with her husband, at 11:30 a.m. Mass on May, 19 2002, Pentecost Sunday, at the St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church.

They were also members of Mary Queen of Franciscans SFO at the St. Marys Church in Herman. Maureen was instrumental in establishing a weekly prayer group, introducing the message of Divine Mercy into the St. Gregory's Parish, Zelienople. She attended the St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Butler until the time of her passing.

In addition to her husband, Maureen is survived by her daughters, Catherine Kraus Stapinski and Kelly Elizabeth Garbelotti; her son in-law, James L. Garbelotti; and her grandchildren, James F. Garbelotti, Bridgette A. Garbelotti and Daniel M. Stapinski.

Kraus— The friends of Maureen Elizabeth Catherine Timm Kraus, who passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, North Main Street Extension, Butler.
