Summer-themed event funds Butler Memorial Hospital needs
Some of the biggest equipment needs at Butler Memorial Hospital over the past year have been a camera that captures images of a heart, a vein finder to help safely inject IVs into patients and new data software.
The Independence Health System BHS Foundation helped purchase each of these pieces of equipment last fiscal year, thanks to money raised through events such as the Sip of Summer Gala.
The foundation had its second Sip of Summer Gala on Friday, Aug. 18, which raised $78,000 to support the “greatest needs fund” at Butler Memorial Hospital.
“The foundation receives the request to support a piece of equipment or service. The funds are transferred from the foundation to hospital with support for those areas,” said Kris Bowser, development and events manager for Independence Health System BHS Foundation. “We're glad to be able to provide that support to the hospital and those patients.”
The Sip of Summer Gala was a summer-themed event at Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry Township, and featured a cocktail hour, dinner, silent auction, basket raffle, entertainment, casino games, photo booth and other summer-related activities.
Bowser said all of the foundations that supported hospitals in Butler Health System and Excela Health have remained independent of one another following the merger which created Independence Health System. Any donations given through the BHS Foundation will remain local to support Butler Memorial Hospital.
Bowser said Independence Health System BHS Foundation will continue hosting events and fundraisers to help Butler Memorial Hospital and the community.
“Each foundation is continuing to raise funds in their own local community,” Bowser said. “We're supporting the needs at Butler Memorial Hospital.”
