Scoop making comeback

That’s more like it.

Needing a big week to rebound from a very poor start, the Scoopster delivered with a 10-1 mark last week.

Even the game I got wrong — Knoch’s victory over Hollidaysburg — I kind of, sort of, got right.

I picked Hollidaysburg knowing deep down Knoch would probably win. You’re welcome, Knights.

With the nearly flawless week, I am now a very respectable 30-14.

Let’s roll:

Clarion 47, Union 18 — Tonight the Golden Knights take a very potent offense to Clarion to face a Bobcats’ team that is, well, awesome.

And I don’t throw around awesomes like Union quarterback Lane Cicciarelli throws around the football.

Union may hang in there for a while, but Clarion is just too good.

North Allegheny 41, Butler 9 — You know the Tigers are angry after losing to Seneca Valley and squeaking past Pine-Richland.

That’s not good news for Butler, which is just looking for any semblance of an offense.

Central Catholic 29, Seneca Valley 21 — This could very well be for the section championship.

The Raiders fall just short.

Knoch 18, Hampton 17 — Sorry, Knights, I’m picking you in a close game this week. Hopefully the reverse psychology doesn’t hold.

Mars 40, Greensburg Salem 8 — The Planets made a big statement last week with a 39-0 thumping of Highlands.

The thumpings continue.

Karns City 34, Franklin 17 — When Tristan Rhoades makes it onto the field for Karns City, good things happen. The junior running back has averaged 18 yards per carry.

He may shoot for an even 20 this week.

Brookville 34, Moniteau 16 — The long season continues for the Warriors.

Redbank Valley 32, A-C Valley 15 — Despite being winless, A-C Valley has a scoring trophy threat in Mike Suto, who is just six points behind Mars’ Josh Schultheis.

Slippery Rock 42, East 8 — East has been heading south of late, losing 12 in a row. Meanwhile, the Rockets got their offense back to explosive levels last week against Bradford.

Greenville 21, Grove City 16 — The Eagles have been so good for so long it was startling that they lost by 30 points last week.

This is one of those games where I have to pick a winner, so I pick the home team, but I could see Grove City rebounding.

Shady Side Academy 37, Freeport 7 — Speaking of long seasons ... the Yellowjackets are in the middle of one.

They got a gut-check win two weeks ago against Deer Lakes, but were shut out last week in an ugly loss to Valley.

This one could be hard to watch, too.

Summit Academy 20, Ford City 17 — One of these weeks, picking Summit is going to work out for me.

Perhaps this will be that week.

Scoop predicted the Browns’ win over the Vikings. No, really, he did.
