In loving memory of my son, Derek DiGregorio who was tragically taken from me 11 years ago today, August 16, 2003

The saddest day of my life, again, is today,

It was 11 years ago that God called you away.

And though the years stretch on before me, so bleak and dark and long, I pray that you walk beside me, Derek, and remind me to stay strong.

But this year is very different from those that came and went before,

For Grandpa is with you now, at peace and contented, of that I am sure.

He and I spoke about you often shortly before he passed,

Grandpa talked about seeing you soon, and I had a favor I needed to ask.

He told me he was bringing you the lure you loved to use to fish, And that is when I shared with him my deepest, most heartfelt wish.

I asked that when he saw you, he’d give you something else,

A hug from me each day, until the day I can give you one myself.
