Saturday night activities provide variety of fun

While most Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival activities and vendors will wrap up at 5 p.m. Saturday, the Jeep fun will continue into the night at the Big Butler Fairgrounds.

Festival organizers have planned special events and entertainment to appeal to all ages, even non-Jeep owners.

Starting at 5 p.m., visitors can see a rock racing demonstration on the Jeep Playground. Professional racers from the Rausch Creek RC Rocs Race Series will compete against each other for the best time.

These off-road buggies will fly over the rocks to see who can master the Playground.

The Great Pig Out, sponsored by Rugged Ridge and catered by Fairground Market, will be served from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. More than 800 festival-goers bought advance tickets to enjoy this picnic feast.

Tickets had to be bought by July 30, but food vendors will be open during the evening to feed those without tickets.

New this year is the Jeep Team Challenge. Fifty teams of Jeeps will try some entertaining driving challenges, such as driving blindfolded, playing “broomball,” popping water balloons and shooting baskets. This event will begin at 6 p.m. and is expected to be one of the highlights of the 2012 event.

The festival also will have some music. Butler’s own Mass Transit will take the stage from 6 to 9 p.m. to perform a wide variety of music from the 1950s through today. Their diverse playlist offers everything from rock ‘n roll to oldies to country. Attendees are encouraged to take a blanket or lawn chair.

Also planned are games including volleyball, and there will be some golf balls to hit.

“You don’t need to be a Jeep enthusiast to enjoy the festival,” said Patti Jo Lambert, festival director.

“This event is all about celebrating Butler’s Jeep heritage and welcoming Jeepers home to Butler. Jeep owners told us over and over they were amazed at how the community opened their arms to them last year, and we hope that everyone will once again give them a warm welcome.”
