Kim Cooper

Kim Cooper was recently presented the Junior Woman of the Year award during the closing dinner of the GFWC Junior Women's Club of Butler. Cooper was honored for her eight years of service to the club. She has served as treasurer, corresponding and recording secretary and has held some of those positions more than once.She has served on numerous committees and has volunteered for projects, including maintenance at the Gateway Gardens on Routes 422 and 8, the Caring Angels telethon and the City Easter Egg Hunt. She has served as chairwoman of the Twilight Magic, the club's annual fund-raising event.Recently she participated with the Butler Junior Club to host an evening celebration during the GFWC Pennsylvania Convention 2008 in May.Cooper is a graduate of Butler High School and Clarion University. She works at Center Township Elementary School as a second grade teacher. She has been teaching for 10 years, is active with the school musical, tutors students and is a member of the Math Quality Council committee.—-

A Non-Granger Community Service Award was given to <B>Scott Jamison</B> of Evans City at the Butler County Pomona Grange 17 Rural Life Sunday service at Chicora Missionary and Alliance Church in Chicora.Jamison has served the Evans City Fire Department for many years and works for Three Rivers Ice Cream. He and his wife, Carol, have two children.—-

At the recent Butler County Grange Awards Banquet at the Unionville Grange Hall, the following awards were given:<B>Jean Williams</B>, <B>Larry Wolford</B> and <B>Dave Barnhart</B> were honored for 25 years of membership with Donegal Grange 1495.<B>Clair Taggart</B> with 65 years of membership; <B>Helen Taggart </B>with 60 years of membership; <B>Larry Stewart</B>, <B>Verna Stewart</B>, <B>Frank Davis</B> and <B>Betty Davis, </B>all with 30 years of membership, were honored for membership with Slippery Rock Grange 1441.<B>Richard Mangel</B> and <B>Virginia Mangel</B> were honored for 40 years of membership with Unionville Grange 1971.<B>Howard Halstead</B> was honored for 65 years with Jefferson Grange 1373.—-

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Butler 443 announces new officers for the 2008 through 2010 term. The Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary (Candystripers) were honored for donating 23,466 hours of service to the hospital this past year. Composed of 358 women, men and young adults, the groups were saluted duringthe annual recognition luncheon at the Butler Country Club on April 11.Receiving the 2008 award for Auxilian of the Year was Mildred Beneigh of East Butler. The Candystriper of the Year award was presented to Samantha Lehnerd of Butler.Beneigh joined the Auxiliary in 1995 and has donated more than 7,500 hours. She volunteers in the Emergency Room, the Cherry Tree and anywhere else she is needed. She has two daughters, three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family, playing cards, line dancing, traveling and gardening.

Lehnerd, daughter of Tom and Ruth Lehnerd of Butler, has been a Candystriper since June 2004. She is a senior at Butler High School and plans to attend Butler County Community College to study communications. She has worked more than 700 hours in the past four years in many departments at the hospital and has served as an officer for the past two years. Those interested in joining the auxiliary or Candystripers may call Kim Reamer, director of volunteer services at 724-284-4342.
