Elaine Albert Briggs

Elaine Albert Briggs, 90, of Brownstown, Mich., formerly of Butler, passed away Thursday at the Brownstown's Forestview in Brownstown, Mich.

She was born on April 26, 1923, in Johnstown, Pa., to the late Harry Brunell Albert and Charlotte Pearl (Mills) Albert.

Elaine and her family were former Butler residents for more than 30 years. She was a music teacher and band leader at Slippery Rock Middle School.

After retiring, she and her husband, Bruce, moved to Fort Myers, Fla. After his death, she moved to Brownstown, Mich., to live near her daughter.

While living in Butler she was involved in these activities: Butler Little Theatre, was a professional soloist with the Butler Symphony Orchestra and other local symphony orchestras, choir director at the Hill Presbyterian Church and was a substitute teacher in the Butler School District. She was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 179 Freeport.

Mrs. Briggs is survived by her daughter, Toni Lynne Yanowski and her husband, Thomas, of Brownstown, Mich.; her son, Bruce H. Briggs II and his wife, Wendy Cahall, of Oxford, N.C.; her five grandchildren, Tech. Sgt. Jason Vavro, USAF, and his wife, Breann Moore, Cortney (Vavro) Abdelsalam and her husband, Kaher, Kristina Anne Vavro, Daniel Briggs and Elaine (Briggs) Saul and her husband, Matthew; and her great-grandson, Kyle Saul. She also has an extended family through other marriages which include her grandson, Benjamin Cahall; her granddaughter, Suzanne Yanowski; her four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Nicholas, Natasha and Xavier Yanowski; and her great-grandson, Jordan Abdelsalam.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce H. Briggs, who she married on May 30, 1946, and who passed away on Jan. 8, 2001, and her brother, Leon Albert.

BRIGGS — The friends of Elaine Albert Briggs, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.Entombment will take place in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Butler County Memorial Park.Memorials are suggested to the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W.
