Moniteau to serve as local vaccine clinic

Moniteau Junior/Senior High School will become a vaccine clinic July 8.

Tom Samosky, superintendent of the district, said UPMC Children's Hospital contacted the district about hosting a clinic to offer free COVID-19 vaccines to anyone over age 12 who wants one.

“We thought it was for the benefit of the community to give out our space,” he said.

The clinic takes place from noon until 3 p.m. in the school gymnasium, and it is recommended that those interested schedule an appointment on UPMC's vaccination webpage.

Samosky said it can be attended by anyone, not just those within the Moniteau School District. Children under age 18 will need a permission slip to be vaccinated.

At a Monday night meeting, the Moniteau school board approved the use of four new textbooks within the district. These include an elementary English language arts book, a Keystone biology book, an American government book and an American pageant book.

Samosky said it is normal for the district to update the textbooks for each class every few years.

“It's typically chosen by our department heads, the administration and then the board has some input,” he said. “It is board policy to approve all textbooks used in all grades.”
